               Media Studies is a discipline and field of study that deals with the content , history and effects of various media, in particular, the "mass media ". Media studies can build on the traditions of both the social sciences and humanities, but also its basic disciplines of mass communication , communication, communication sciences and communication studies . Researchers can also develop and use theories and methods of disciplines , including cultural studies , rhetoric , philosophy , literary theory , psychology , political science , political economy , economics, sociology, anthropology, social theory, art history and criticism , film theory , feminist theory , and information theory .
            The media industry is growing in India at a rate of 20 percent per year. Together, entertainment and media form sixth largest industry in the country , with 3.5 million people work there. In the next 4-5 years , we expect the industry to aggregate eighty thousand rupees (800 billion rupees ) per year.
In order to make the best use of the means of communication of information, advertising and development, the Government of India in 1962-63 sought the advice of the Ford Foundation / UNESCO team of internationally renowned experts mass communication that recommended the establishment of a national institute for training, teaching and research in mass communication .
